Gold filled is a material where 14K gold is pressure-bonded to a base metal (brass). If the gold weight is 1/20 or more of the total weight, it is called gold filled. The surface is completely 14K gold, but by using brass for the unseen core (not touching the skin), it offers an affordable price. Therefore, its appearance is close to solid gold parts and differs from plated parts. It also has the characteristic of being more durable (less likely to peel) than plating.
