Shipping to the United States: Duties & FedEx DDP

Due to recent U.S. customs policy changes and carrier restrictions, all U.S.-bound orders are now dutiable and will ship via FedEx only. Duties are shown and collected at checkout for U.S. orders so parcels clear customs smoothly and arrive faster.

What’s Changed

  • All U.S. orders are now subject to duty — the US$800 de minimis threshold has been eliminated.
  • Japan Post has suspended U.S.-bound e-commerce parcels. FedEx is the only shipping option.
  • FedEx strongly recommends DDP and accepts residential deliveries on a DDP basis only.
  • Duties are shown and collected in your cart. Orders to other countries remain unchanged.
Why DDP?
Prepaid duties (DDP) remove uncertainty at the border. Parcels avoid customs payment holds, reducing delays and ensuring faster delivery.

Current Effective Duty Rates (U.S.)

Duties are calculated as the sum of the base tariff plus a 15% reciprocal tariff for goods from Japan. Effective combined rates by product type:

Product Category Duty Rate Notes
Semi-precious stone beads 15% Bead strands and loose beads
Bracelets & pendants 17–19.5% Varies by HS classification
Silver items 21.3% Finished jewelry and components
Copper items 18% Finished jewelry and components
14K gold-filled items 20.8% Chains, findings, finished items

Note: Subject to change based on future developments.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is DDP (Delivered Duty Paid)?

DDP means duties are prepaid and included in your checkout total. This avoids customs payment holds and speeds up delivery.

Do these changes affect countries other than the U.S.?

No. This update applies only to U.S.-bound orders.

Why might duty rates differ between items?

Rates are determined by HS classification and the items in your cart. Duties are calculated automatically at checkout.

Can you still ship with Japan Post?

No. Japan Post has suspended U.S.-bound e-commerce parcels. FedEx is the only option at this time.
Countries other than the US remain available for use as before.
