Il s'agit d'obsidienne de glace (obsidienne), un verre volcanique naturel. Parmi les obsidiennes, qui apparaissent noires en raison de l'absorption de la lumière par la magnétite incluse, l'« obsidienne de glace » désigne une obsidienne avec moins d'impuretés et une grande transparence. En raison de la nature de l'utilisation de chutes générées lors de la sculpture du produit, différentes pierres peuvent être mélangées dans les copeaux.
