La hokutolite est une pierre rare que l'on ne trouve que dans deux endroits : la source chaude de Beitou à Taïwan et la source chaude de Tamagawa dans la préfecture d'Akita, au Japon. Au Japon, elle a été désignée monument naturel en 1922 et monument naturel spécial en 1952. Actuellement, toute nouvelle exploitation minière est interdite afin de protéger cette précieuse pierre. Ce produit présente des perles rondes fabriquées à partir de poudre de hokutolite transformée en céramique. Ce procédé garantit une qualité, une forme et des traces de rayonnement naturel stables. Avec une histoire étroitement liée à la culture de la « cure thermale » depuis l'Antiquité, c'est aujourd'hui une pierre naturelle populaire également connue sous le nom de « pierre de pouvoir ».
