Lapis lazuli Property
Lapis lazuli was already considered a sought-after commodity in the 3rd millennium before Christ, from which artistic objects were made. For the ancient Egyptians, this precious stone was the most precious thing they could give to their dead pharaohs as burial gifts. Thus, some lapis lazuli was worked into the death mask of Tutankhamun. For many rulers of history, lapis lazuli was considered a protective stone. And,It is said that the ancient trade route, the Silk Road, was previously called the Lapis lazuli Road. This gemstone also played a role as a pigment because of its azure blue color. It was processed into make-up and used in painting.
Lapis lazuli is also used in the beautiful blue of Johannes Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earring", a famous 17th-century painter.
The name of lapis lazuli has its origin partly in the Arabic language. The word "Azul" (in English: sky), which comes from the Arabic language, was taken over into the Latin language and the word "Lapis" (in English: stone) was added.
